The AI features use credits, with Premium as well: credits are a purchase of their own (see below). Sentence training also needs practice sentences, which you can generate with the AI features or take over from stories.

Premium – the subscription

Premium is an auto-renewing subscription, monthly or yearly. Which lengths exist and what they cost in your country is shown by the App Store in the window with the offers (Settings › Premium, or in the notice at a locked feature).

  • You pay with your Apple account; it is charged when you confirm the purchase.
  • The subscription renews automatically for the same length unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. The renewal is charged within 24 hours before the period ends.
  • You manage and cancel it any time in the settings of your Apple account under “Subscriptions” or directly in the app (Settings › Premium › Manage subscription). If you cancel, it keeps running until the end of the paid period.
  • The subscription belongs to your Apple account and is valid on all your devices. The app checks it on the device – you need no account with Vocabulary Collector.
  • After reinstalling or on a new device: “Restore purchases” in the window with the offers.

More from Apple: Cancel or manage subscriptions. Apple’s standard terms of use (EULA) and our privacy policy apply.

If you cancel

After the paid period ends the app stays usable with what the free version offers: multiple choice, flashcards, one training language and up to 1,000 words.

  • Your own stories stay saved and are in the list with a lock; you keep reading the sample stories and bought packs.
  • What you had set for Premium (exercise types, languages) stays saved. As soon as you have Premium again, everything is back.
  • Vocabulary, progress and forms stay unchanged, even when there are more than 1,000 words: you keep practising with them and can edit, delete and export them. The app saves new words again once you are below the limit or have Premium again. The export still contains your stories as well.

Story packs

Packs with reviewed stories in the language you are learning – with translation, word list and read-aloud. You buy a pack once; it belongs to your Apple account and does not expire. It is not a subscription, and you do not need Premium to read the stories.

  • After the purchase the app loads the stories itself; after that you read them without a connection.
  • After reinstalling or on a new device “Restore purchases” in the shop brings the packs back.
  • If the texts of a pack are improved, you get it as an update – your reading position stays.
  • The stories are reviewed before they go into a pack; a mistake can still happen. Report it through “Contact and feedback”.

AI credits

The AI features are done by an AI service on the server: suggesting forms, suggesting translations, generating practice sentences and explaining sentences. They use credits. New users get a starter balance to try them; you buy more credits in several sizes.

  • Charged by actual use, so amounts can be fractions. Before a bigger request the app estimates the cost and asks you.
  • Credits do not expire. They are tied to your Apple account: after reinstalling or on a new device they are back.
  • Without credits everything else in the app keeps working. Before words or sentences are sent for the first time, the app asks permission.
  • You can delete your data of the AI features any time in the settings. Your credits are then lost; Premium and story packs you bought stay with your Apple account and can be restored.
Questions

Briefly answered

What happens when I reach 1,000 words?

The free version keeps up to 1,000 words; words are counted, not translations. From 800 on, the vocabulary list shows how many there are. At 1,000 the app saves no new words, and the New word page says so at the top before you type anything. Everything you have stays fully usable: practising, editing, deleting, exporting. If you delete words there is room again; with Premium there is no limit.

How do I cancel Premium?

On your iPhone or iPad open Settings, tap your name, then “Subscriptions” and choose “Vocabulary Collector”. Or in the app: Settings › Premium › Manage subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, or it renews once more.

I already have Premium – how do I get it on a new device?

Sign in with the same Apple account and open the app. If Premium does not show up right away, tap “Restore purchases” at the bottom of the window with the offers under Settings › Premium.

How do I get a refund?

Apple refunds purchases made through the App Store. You can request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. If a credit purchase is refunded, the server deducts the credits again.

Does Premium work on iPad as well?

Yes. The subscription belongs to your Apple account and is valid on all devices where you are signed in with that account.

Do I need an account with Vocabulary Collector?

No. The app checks the subscription on your device through the App Store. For the AI features the app signs in in the background with an identifier signed by Apple (the app transaction ID of your Apple account for this app); you need no password and enter no personal data (details in the privacy policy).
