From the first word to a whole story: how you collect, practice and keep your vocabulary in German, English, Greek, Spanish and French.
Dictionaries on your device
A dictionary is a language file with translations, word classes, gender and every word form. You download it once; after that Vocabulary Collector looks up new words without the word leaving your device – even in airplane mode.
- Dictionaries for German, English and Greek; Spanish and French are in preparation.
- Over 3.5 million word forms: every case, tense, person and degree of comparison.
- No dictionary downloaded? Then the app asks the online dictionary – only the word you typed is sent, with no account or device identifier. You can switch it off.
- A dictionary is not study material: vocabulary comes from vocabulary packages, from stories or from you.
- The data is under a free license and can be downloaded.
Every form at a glance – and in practice
For each word Vocabulary Collector shows the tables of its forms, with read-aloud for every single one. Where a form comes from is shown too: the dictionary, the app’s rule model or the AI features.
- Nouns with cases and number, verbs with tenses, moods and persons, adjectives with degrees of comparison.
- Create, change or delete forms yourself. Doubtful forms are marked and kept out of practice.
- Form practice: “houses” → “die Häuser”, “die Häuser” → “houses” or base form + “plural” → “houses”. You choose which word classes and tenses are practiced.
- With the details of a word (“unchangeable”, “plural only”, “comparative with more”) the app knows which forms exist at all.
Ready-made vocabulary packages
Word lists for a language and a level (for example A1) or a topic, with translation, example sentence and forms. You download a package once and learn it card by card.
- A word enters your vocabulary when you turn its card. “Don’t learn” hides it for good.
- The list shows for each package how many words you already know and how many are still open.
- Finished packages disappear from the list and can be started again as a repeat round.
- When a newer version exists, the app asks – you decide whether to load it.
- All packages are also available as a file to download.
Stories to read
Read a story in the language you are learning: sentence by sentence, with the translation in your language and the words you may want to keep. The app remembers where you stopped.
- Sample stories in Greek and English are included.
- Your own stories: have an AI program of your choice write them (for example ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini) – the app prepares the request, checks the answer and saves it. Or bring a text of your own that the program translates sentence by sentence.
- Story packs with reviewed stories are bought once; they do not expire and need no subscription.
- You add words to your vocabulary with one tap; words you already have are grey and show their forms.
- You can keep any sentence as a practice sentence – that costs nothing and needs no connection; it is practiced in sentence training (Premium).
Practice
Eight kinds of exercises, one learning system
Vocabulary Collector asks your words by the Leitner system: seven boxes with adjustable intervals (initially immediately, 1, 3, 7, 14, 30 and 90 days). Words you answer correctly move up one box, wrong ones go back to the start.

What else comes with it
New word with suggestions
Type a word and the app suggests translation, word class, gender, example sentence and forms – from the dictionary, optionally from Apple’s translation feature. It saves when you leave the page; there is no save button.
Take words from any app
Select a word in another app, choose “Share” and then Vocabulary Collector: the app opens “New word”, looks it up and offers the word class before you have to type anything.
AI features – if you want them
Extras that an AI service on the server takes care of: suggesting forms, suggesting translations, generating practice sentences, explaining sentences. They cost credits; new users get a starter balance. Everything else works without them, and the app asks permission before the first send.
iCloud sync and backup
Vocabulary, progress, sentences, stories and settings are the same on all devices with the same Apple account. In addition you export everything as a file and import it again – optionally with your progress.
Simple or with grammar
In simple mode you practice words and sentences with their translation – without word classes, forms and AI features. The mode with grammar has everything the app can do. You switch any time; nothing is lost.
German and English in the app
The app speaks German and English. Your mother tongue decides in which language translations appear and into which stories are translated; keyboard and read-aloud follow the foreign language.
Help on every screen
Every screen has a question mark with help for exactly that screen, plus grammar help for Greek, English, Spanish and French. Two color schemes, Lagoon and Amber, are available.
You stay in control
Words you never want to be suggested again are kept in a list you can take them back from. You download and delete packages yourself. No account with us, no tracking by us.
